An eight year old girl in China almost died from being malnourished to some uncertain illness. Niuniu Liang, 8, lived in a village near the city of Zhoukou, Henan Province with her grandparents was left malnourished and sick most of the time until they found out the cause.
Her parents are mostly away from work and her father Cai Liang, 36, just went home for New Year and he noticed that Niuniu was very skinny and very weak. "I wanted to make sure she got some good meals but then I realized she was being sick after each meal, and my parents told me it was happening most of the time after they went away.
With no hesitation Cai brought his daughter Niuniu, to the hospital where she was examined and conducted an X-ray. What the doctors found out was shocking because the X-ray shows a massive foreign body in Niuniu Liang's stomach, with no space for food intake whatsoever.
With no other choice to save her and no time to waste, the doctors suggested that she would need to be operated, for them to check the unidentified object inside her. After a few hours of operation, the doctors was very surprised what they found out, the reason why she was sick is because her digestive track is being blocked by a massive ball of hair in a shape of her stomach, weighing 2 kilos. They removed it afterwards.
Her father mentioned that she was chewing her hair most of the time but they didn't pay too much attention to it, but they do scold her once in awhile. "We were always telling her not to chew her hair, but we didn't have any idea that it would end up accumulating her stomach like this", Cai Liang said.
"She was probably chewing her hair because she was distressed at not having her parents around." - The doctors reported.
As Niuniu recovers, her father took time off from work to look after his daughter. "I am going to see i either myself or my wife can make sure we are around as she is clearly missing her parents", Cai Liang said.
The surgery was successful and Niuniu Liang is now observation for the time being with her father at bedside until her full recovery.
